This weekend….

…Is going to be awesome. Im going to see Cafe Tacuba on Friday night and then Saturday Im moderating a panel conversation at the Machinima Filmfestival 2008. The panel consist of Artists and Machinima filmmakers Annie Ok, (top) Dan Torop, (below Annie) and this years nominees Les Riches Douaniers from France with Chevauchee Nocturne.

The panel is titled “Machinima and Art”, so what does that mean? good question, I’m sure we’ll find out. The nominees this year are outstanding and the rest of the panels will shine a light on everything from the history to the legal side of machinima. And then there’s the award ceremony, with rapid-prototyped trophies, and the 8bit sounds of Bubblyfish for the after-party.

plus I have been making some..

…with homemade opaque projectors.

Super Boxwars Melee:

a potpourri of videogames put into physical space and beyond

Current Eyebeam resident Christina Kral and Eyebeam affiliate and video game pro Lenny Correa invite anyone willing to participate in an experimental game buffet.
Come play with us. Seriously.

Time: Saturday Oct 18th
11:00am - 6:00pm
Place: Eyebeam, 540 w 21st st, NYC

I was invited to develop this workshop by the lovely duo of Christina Kral and Friedrich Kirschner. The main idea comes from the “international pop culture movement” of Boxwars. A Boxwars event happens when a group of people get together and creatively use cardboard to fabricate armor, weapons and mobile fortresses to duke it out in a friendly non-sensical way. We are taking this methodology and adding to it principles of video game mechanics. This way during the workshop we will develop ideas with the participants about the notion of play and create rules, props and costumes to perform these experiments.
So imagine something like this happening on the fly:

Plus that day Park(ing) Day NYC is taking over 21st street and turning it into lees than just asphalt and more like engaging life.
