Crystal Castles

Crystal Castles
Transit, 600 Spring Garden St
Philadelphia, PA 19123

First of all, the photographers; because I like them:

Met one guy who’s whole job was to snap pictures of people drinking Sparks and PBR, both drinks where free at the bar until 11 pm.
So the music provides the people, the people provide themselves and the beverages’ ad campaigns profit? Im still trying to figure out which party makes the most profit..
12 dollars got you into the venue, a huge old social club with three levels of dance halls and bars , its deteriorating infrastructure and history comfortably nestled in its new role as a dance club.
And then Health played, a Los Angeles noise/disco band that blew me away.

They had so much energy and would beat up their instruments with passion, Reid pointed out that all their instruments and pedals had their tags and names taped over… secrets, little secrets…

I don’t know who this guy is.

And well, then , Crystal Castles came out, all fire and brimstone plus beer.

thats the drummer..
Alice Glass

They have an amazingly minimal light show, just a number of strobe lights that pulsate frantically. A perfect analogy for its aural counterpart and not for the faint of visual consumption.

These are my two favorite pics of Ethan Kath.
He was approachable enough to talk to me about their T-shirts, one of which I bought. I really loved the hand printed posters of a beat up Madonna, forgot to ask him who made them….

And then it was over.

P.S.
Dear Crystal Castles: If you want high-res copies of any of the pictures just shoot me an email.

@ Eyebeam

I recently started working for two resident artists @ Eyebeam in NYC. I assist Joseph DeLappe in the 3d online world of Second Life with design and construction of buildings and other necessities for his performance. He is currently reenacting Gandhi’s Salt March in Second Life and also in first life by using a modified treadmill to control his movement online.
For more info, and to keep up with his starting points each day, visit his blog:
http://saltmarchsecondlife.wordpress.com/

These are some pics of Gandhi during the first day of his march , below is the recreation of Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram currently hosted @ Eyebeam Island in second life.
To visit the site in Second Life click here:

pixel pics!!

To the left is my avatar, modeled after the American journalist Webb Miller who was one of the only present journalist during the Dharasana Salt Works raid and a friend to Gandhi. To the right you can see Jo-Anne Green’s avatar, of Turbulance.org, and in the pictures below you’ll see others who joined during Gandhi’s walk.

That is a huge prim sculpture of Mario 8-bit behind Gandhi !!

I have also been assisting Taeyoon Choi with his Camerautomata project as a research and development assistant. The project’s site is constantly being updated by Taeyoon’s team as well as himself so you can keep updated as the progress goes along.
Needless to say, both these artist are amazing and I have been having a grand old time @ Eyebeam.

For this performance, DeLappe will be physically walking on a converted treadmill the entire 240 miles of the original march. His steps on the treadmill, which will control the forward movement of his avatar in the online world, will both be physically and virtually reenacting this seminal march of protest.
